Second Mithridatic War

83-81 BCE

Roman Republic/Bithynia vs. Kingdom of Pontus & Armenia
Lucius Licinius Murena vs. Mithridates VI the Great

L. Licinius Murena, whom Sulla had left in charge of the legions in Asia Minor, attacked Mithridates, under the pretense that he was rearming. He pursued this war, despite the disapproval of the Senate, and he only desisted after Mithridates had defeated him and Sulla had ordered him to stop.
