Gaius Scribonius Curio

A conservative and successful military general

He served as a tribune of the plebs in 90 BCE, and he later served under Lucius Cornelius Sulla in Greece. He was later elected consul in 76 BCE with Gnaeus Octavius. After his consulship, he was made governor of Macedonia. During his term, he successfully fought against the Dardani and Moesians and earned a military triumph in 71 BCE for his victories, which included crossing the Danube River - the first Roman to do so. He was later a supporter of Cicero during the Catilinarian Conspiracy and a political opponent of Julius Caesar.
